Common Questions
Is It Safe?
Hyperbaric sessions are performed under close supervision only by certified technicians. Our chambers are filled with air (21% oxygen) and the client breathes pure oxygen, as opposed to the chamber being filled with pure oxygen. This is a key difference supporting the safety of our chambers.
We always start our clients at the lowest pressure to ensure they are comfortable (equivalent to 9ft below water). Although there are minor risks, hyperbaric therapy is extremely safe. The few risks will be discussed with you before you sign your consent form for therapy. If at any point you feel unsafe, you can press a button to safely de-pressurize and get out of the chamber.
Are Devices Allowed In The Chamber?
No. In order to adhere to the safest protocols and industry standards, we cannot allow any potential ignition source inside the hyperbaric chamber. So, let it be the perfect excuse to escape those screens, truly relax, and finish that great book you've been putting off :)
What Medications Are Not OK with Hyperbarics?
- Bleomycin (chemotherapy drug)
- Doxorubicin (Adriamycin) (chemotherapy drug)
- Cisplatin (chemotherapy drug)
- Disulfiram (Antabuse) (used for alcohol dependence)
- Mafenide Acetate (Sulfamylon) (topical antimicrobial for burns)
- Corticosteroids (e.g., Prednisone, Dexamethasone) (anti-inflammatory/immunosuppressive drugs)
- Narcotics (e.g., Morphine, Fentanyl) (pain management)
Are There Side Effects?
The most common side effect is barotrauma (pressure) to the ears and sinuses caused by the change in pressure. To minimize this, clients must clear (pop) their ears during compression. If at any point you need to pressurize at a slower rate, let us know. At Go2 Hyperbarics, we follow well-known treatment protocols to avoid any such issues.
What Should The Technician Know Before Treatment?
- If you have cold or flu symptoms, fever, sinus or nasal congestion, or chest congestion.
- If there has been a change in any of your medications.
- If you are diabetic and did not take your insulin prior to treatment.
- If you have any concerns or anxiety regarding the chamber.
- If you have a history of seizures.
A more in-depth assessment is done prior to your session.
is HBOT Safe For Children?
Yes, hyperbarics can yield wonderful results with children. In fact, research with children suffering from brain-injuries, genetic disorders, and autism, has shown positive results and great promise.
Is HBOT Safe For The Elderly?
Hyperbarics has shown to be great for those in their later years. There are signals in the research that HBOT is good for anti-aging, neurologic conditions, and overall health and well-being. In fact, new research points to elongating telomere length and slowing apoptosis.
What If I Can't Pop My Ears?
If you are unable to "pop" your ears by yourself or by using our methods, then you will not be able to do hyperbaric therapy. Unfortunately, the pressure will continue and cause pain to the ear (Barotrauma). Hyperbaric Therapy should never be painful.
What If I Need To Go To The Bathroom?
If at any point you need to get out of the chamber, there is a button and/or manual valves to safely depressurize the chamber to get out and go to the bathroom.
Can I Talk With The Technician During Treatment?
Yes. While inside the chamber you can use our intercom system to talk with your technician for any assistance.
Should I Prepare?
Only clean, cotton clothing is allowed in the chamber. Patients should give up all tobacco and nicotine products, as they interfere with the body’s ability to transport oxygen.
Are There Side Effects?
The most common side effect is barotrauma (pressure) to the ears and sinuses caused by the change in pressure. To minimize this, patients learn techniques to clear their ears during compression. If at any point you need to pressurize at a slower rate, let us know. At Go2 Hyperbarics, we follow well-known treatment protocols to avoid any such issues.
Why Hard Hyperbarics Chambers?
Hard chambers have shown superior therapeutic benefits for more conditions due to higher pressure (2.0+ ATA vs. 1.3 ATA in a soft chamber), greater oxygen purity, and technical oversight. This aligns with the majority of clinical trials, benefits, and common protocols.
Can I Get Out At Any Time?
Yes. There is a STOP button as well as manual valves (to open) directly by you in the chamber. It takes about 2 minutes to depressurize.
Are You Against Soft Chambers?
No. Soft chambers have a few benefits for patients in some applications. We use hard chambers to provide the same benefits and many more, enabling higher pressures that follow the vast majority of clinical trials and protocols. Because of this, we can be more confident in our client's success.
Can I Get Oxygen Toxicity?
In order to get Pulmonary Oxygen Toxicity, a client would have to receive therapy for at least 6 hours within a 24 hour period. Our sessions last 90 minutes and we limit our clients to 1 session per day.
Can I Assist The Effectiveness?
Yes. Nearly all studies apply consistent therapy over a limited time window (example: 60 sessions within 90 days). Inconsistent sessions will likely result in minimal benefit. A generally healthy diet/lifestyle is important as well.
How Many Sessions Do I Need?
The "40-hour protocol" is the gold standard for many of the physiological benefits and in case studies. Most of the benefits begin within the first few sessions of HBOT. It is well documented that the antioxidant and protective role of HBOT is demonstrated within 24 hours of a hyperbaric session, but a noticeable change varies for each person. Each case is different and your doctor may regulate protocols, depending on a patient’s goals.
What If I'm Not Seeing Benefits?
Hyperbarics can have profound benefits for certain individuals and no noticeable changes for others. If we are not seeing changes in the first 20-30 treatments, we will want to revisit the treatment plan and potentially seek out collaborative care with our partner clinicians. Dozens of studies have shown the benefits of HBOT (blood vessel growth, increased stem cell production, etc.) but feeling a noticeable change varies for each person and in each case.
Do You Accept Insurance?
No. Unfortunately, there are only 14 conditions that are covered by insurance (on-label uses) at specific medical facilities and at great cost. These few conditions do not warrant our business accepting insurance. We provide off-label therapy to those who are seeking it.
